Perenco and the IIAP launch Scientific Study of Hydro-biological Richness of Arabela, Curaray and Napo Rivers    

In order to study the biodiversity, support the planning of fishery resources and make recommendations to enable proper management and planned Arabela, Curaray and Napo Rivers, the Instituto de Investigaciones de la Amazonia Peruana ? IIAP (by its abbreviation in Spanish) and Perenco, signed a mutual cooperation agreement that will allow make, for the first time in the area, environmental assessments aim to recommend development strategies and environmental monitoring.

This agreement will establish an environmental baseline which will describe the physical, chemical and biological properties of the above rivers, in order to protect their ecosystem and biodiversity. Perenco, in accordance to its Environmental Policy, will fund the study, ensuring compliance with existing standards of rivers monitoring and environmental assessment.

This study aims to propose alternatives to guide appropriate management of the fishery resources, implement participatory actions for conservation, recommend programs to overcome impacts identified in the study, and provide scientific information for future generations.
